WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) is Canada’s hazard communication system for chemicals used at work. Since 2015, it’s aligned with the GHS (Globally Harmonized System), which standardised hazard pictograms and the 16-section safety data sheet (SDS) format.
The training teaches workers to recognise the correct pictogram, understand the hazard class (flammable, corrosive, toxic, and others), and consult the SDS before handling, storing, or disposing of a substance.

Is there a difference between WHMIS and WHMIS 2015?
WHMIS 2015 is the current version of the system, aligned with the international GHS. It’s the version in effect, and the one Pro Call Electric’s team keeps current.
Does every worker need WHMIS, even those who don’t handle chemicals directly?
Yes, if there’s any potential for exposure or indirect contact on site, the training is recommended for everyone present, not only the workers handling the product directly.
Does WHMIS cover gases like H2S?
WHMIS covers chemical hazard communication in general. High-risk specific gases like H2S have their own dedicated training, such as H2S Alive.
