A motor-operated valve (MOV) is a valve that uses an electric actuator to open, close, or throttle the flow of a process fluid — gas, oil, water, or chemical — in response to an electrical signal from a control system.
In industrial processes, MOVs eliminate the need for manual valve operation, allow remote or automated flow control, and provide a feedback signal to the SCADA system confirming valve position.
When an MOV is improperly wired, miscalibrated, or not correctly set up for the control system, the result can be process flow errors, valve seat damage, or a safety event.
